I’m happy to have been accepted by Guildess as a featured artist in the upcoming show. However, as the name suggests, and I believe was originally meant for women only, I don’t understand why men are allowed to participate and enter their artworks. Maybe we should change our name again….?

I’m glad to be on the list (Mary P).
As far as ‘women only’ goes, perhaps its like my relationship with Cedarburg Artists Guild – as a Milwaukee resident, I can’t be a member, but they still let me do the Plein Air event.
After all, this FLOW show was not limited to Guildess members.

I understand. Perhaps my REAL concern is…some of the juror’s choice artists are Professional photogs…so where is the cut off point?

As Mary Prince suggests, most Guildess exhibitions are open to everyone. The only shows that are limited in any way are the yearly member shows, which take place each July. Please refer to the About Guildess page on this site for further details.

Also, regarding Professional artists, please refer again to the first sentence of my comment. Most Guildess shows are truly open to anyone who chooses to enter them. We hope to present a diverse sampling of the perspectives in Milwaukee’s art community, and beyond.

Thanks for your comments! We’re happy to hear your feedback.

grace, i beleive that that is an entirely larger can of worms. one that defines the word ‘professional’. who decides that? is it based on revenue? is there a list somewhere? i am happy if the works are judged on their aesthetic merit to the show theme.

i think the larger picture that everyone is missing, is that the show proceeds, in part, always go to a charity. why be exclusionary if 25% goes to a charity or non-prof? only women can donate to a good cause now?

    think about it.
